Yes. Contact lenses are a medical devise regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. They are available by prescription only. In Colorado, contact lens prescriptions expire in one year. Your yearly eye exam ensures that the contacts are not damaging your eyes and allow you to see your best.

The school already tests my child’s eyes, why should I bring him to an eye doctor?
A school "vision test" is only a screening. It typically tests only far vision. The screening does not test for farsightedness, focusing problems, or eye tracking. Any of these conditions could have a tremendous effect on your child’s school performance. A comprehensive exam by your eye doctor tests for all of these problems, as well as the health of the eyes.

I have astigmatism, can I wear contact lenses?
Many people believe that contact lenses don’t correct for astigmatism. The good news is that astigmatism-correcting contact lenses have been available for many years. There are numerous brands of astigmatism lenses to fit practically any eye.
